Question 1
In What Ways Does Your Media Project Use Develop or Challenge Forms Of Conventions Of Real Media Projects?
Using conventions
1. The start of the trailer shows two teenage girls doing a Tarot card reading, not knowing what they are getting themselves into. This portrayal of teenagers is quite common in horror films as it shows how oblivious some teenagers can be to how scary and real life can be which uses realism, it shows the rebellious side of teenagers, how they make mistakes, do not care about consequences or think of the side effects, which most teenagers can relate to.
2. Fast paced shots near the end of the trailer to help build up tension, this help builds up to the final jump scare.
3. a final scare is in nearly every horror trailer, it builds up tension throughout the whole trailer and will make the audience (hopefully) jump out of their seats with fear!!!!! it leaves a lasting impression on the audience so it has to be good and this is what will help sell the film.
Developing conventions
1. Using black magic isn't very common in horror thats why we wanted to do black magic because we wanted to use a different genre of horror. we felt that black magic is interesting as so people believe in it and it makes it more scary because people fear the unknown and not many know about black magic.
2. There is a sub genre of horror called "psychological" we thought it was important to incorporate this into our trailer by making chloe look mad and crazy.
3. We have used black magic and develop this into the satanic theory's we also included a satanic bible to show the devil. this is an extreme case of black magic.
Challenging conventions
1. The music used in our trailer speaks out whats happening in different clips such as "they say they murdered 3" and "in the hanging tree" we felt this is good with our trailer because this isn't usually done in horror trailers so we tried this idea to see what it would be like and we found it worked pretty well.
2. In most horror its women getting killed by men but we have took a different approach on this and we have a crazy women who kills people so this is should appeal more for women to watch the film as stereotypically men watch more horror then women but hopefully as the women is the killer this should appeal more to women so more women will watch horror.
3. in most horror the main object that people remember is dangerous but in our horror we have tarot cards.
Our poster
We developed convention in our poster by keeping it really simple so the majority of the poster is black but it has a light shinning on the tarot cards. we think this makes it a good poster because it doesn't give much away about our trailer at all it only gives an impression to the audience that tarot cards are the main theme throughout the horror.
Our magazine
Inspirations from The Women In Black
We took ideas from the women in black poster as the majority of this poster is black and there is just Dan Radclifts this is the same as ours as we have light shinning on the tarot cards.
Inspirations from Ouija
On the poster Ouija its mostly black and just the Ouija board is lite up this shows the audience what the object of horror is which is the Ouija board this is similar to our poster as we have the tarot cards showing on ours. The tarot cards are our objects of horror.
