5 most important things in a horror teaser trailer
1. Sound/dialogue. This is important in a horror teaser trailer because the sound is what makes a trailer seem interesting, and, especially in a horror trailer, using the right sound can make it seem ten times scarier and sometimes the plot will not make sense if there is no sound to go with it. If it is not scary then people will not want to watch it and they will get bored. If a trailer has no/limited sound then it will seem boring and the film may not be popular.
2. Lighting. This is important in a horror teaser trailer because the trailer needs to seem scary to the audience. If there is a lot of light in the trailer then it will not seem scary, however having no light in a trailer is also bad because you might not be able to see what is going on properly. Using natural light is more effective as this creates a shadow effect if the room is quite dark and it can create a spotlight which can seem spooky if the object of fear is half in the light, half in the darkness.
3. Structure and pace of editing. This is important in a horror teaser trailer because if the trailer stays at the same consistant pace the whole way through, this may seem boring for the audience. Whereas using a wide range of editing techniques and having both fast pace and slow paces in the trailer will seem more interesting and the audience will be more intrigued.
4. Setting. This is important in a horror teaser trailer because the setting needs to be scary to persuade the audience that they should go and watch the film. It is even better if it is set in a place where the audience usually seem comfortable and safe, for example a house or a school. If it is set in the wrong place then it can completely ruin the trailer, will not seem scary and it will put the audience off of going to see the film.
5. Narrative. This is the least most important thing but still very important. The Narrative is the story line of which the trailer is based on so from watching the trailer you get a basic storyline but not too much is given away from the whole story.
